Costa Smeralda

Relax and holiday in the most exclusive place in Sardinia

GEOGRAPHY
The Costa Smeralda is considered one of the most popular and luxurious tourist destinations in the world, it stretches for about 50 km north-east of Sardinia, from Liscia di Vacca in the north, municipality of Arzachena, to Portisco, municipality of Olbia further south.
The term Costa Smeralda is often associated with nearby villages, including Porto Rotondo, which although not included in that stretch of coast, has similar characteristics in terms of luxury, architecture and life style.

The Costa Smeralda is famous for its emerald sea, the numerous coves, the beaches of fine white sand that enhance the colors of a dense Mediterranean vegetation.
Not far from the coast, we find splendid islets such as the Capuchin island, Bisce, Soffi and Mortorio island, home to rare species such as the Corsican gull and the peregrine falcon, which is part of the ‘Maddalena archipelago national park’ less than 2 miles between Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo. As in a casket, there is a rich vegetation of gorse, with intense aromas, beautiful beaches and splendid cliffs sculpted by the wind.

HISTORY
The Costa Smeralda was born in 1962 thanks to the “illuminated vision” of the Ishmaelite prince Karim Aga Khan, who with the foundation of the Costa Smeralda Consortium and the choice of architects of the caliber of Jacques Couelle who built the Hotel Cala Di Volpe and his sculpted villa in the rock at Abbiadori; Michele Busiri Vici who designed the famous church of Porto Cervo “Stella Maris” and Luigi Vietti who built the center of the village of Porto Cervo and well-known hotels such as Cervo and Pitrizza, have made the dream of an elite tourist resort come true, that would safeguard and enhance the surrounding nature, using local elements such as raw granite and juniper woods, to create an architectural model envied all over the world.

ARCHITECTURE
In Costa Smeralda we can find a very high concentration of villas, real architectural jewels, designed and created by some of the best architects in the world, who have been able to use materials obtained from a noble and wild nature, through creative processes of the artisan tradition Sardinian excellence.
